Sea Kayaking the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore
Bayfield, Wisconsin

Wisconsin's northernmost coast is made up of a scenic archipelago of 22 Apostle Islands of which 21 are designated as a national lakeshore. These islands rest in the waters of Lake Superior, the world's most expansive freshwater lake. Sea kayaking is one of the most optimum methods of visiting the islands as it allows a quiet, non-invasive method of transportation that causes the visitor to feel more a part of the natural environment.

This event is centered around a three night camping trip on either Sand Island or Oak Island with days spent hiking the island trails, paddling the shorelines, visiting the historic lighthouses, and swimming in beautiful, protected bays.

Time is allowed for individual contemplation, and group discussions are a part of each day. Discussions take place on beaches, under the pines, or under a canopy, depending upon the weather.

Camp menus include hearty breakfasts, and lunches with lots of variety. Full dinners can include whitefish, burritos, baked garlic, and fresh bread.

Moonlight paddles, sunsets, and campfire discussions often end the full days.
[See note below.]

Time both before and after the kayaking segment of the trip is spent in Bayfield, Wisconsin where participants will lodge in a small hotel. Bayfield was recently labeled the "best little town in the Midwest" by the Chicago Tribune and is home to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Headquarters.

[Note: Weather permitting, there is an optional paddle to the Squaw Bay Sea Caves on the last day of the event. This experience accommodates all levels of kayaking skill.]
